GRRTL Hosts Clergy for Life Luncheon

The Diocese of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Right to Life hosted a Clergy for Life Luncheon at Cathedral Square on Tuesday, April 4.

Ed Rivet, legislative director of Right to Life of Michigan, spoke about the damaging effects of abortion and the need to never be silent on the life issues.

Rivet’s talk included an explanation of euthanasia bills being presented in the Michigan legislature and a chart of the number of abortions women living within the parameters of the Diocese of Grand Rapids have secured over the past 36 years .

Mary Pereira, respect life coordinator for the Diocese of Grand Rapids, explained how she could help parishes with Catholic materials on a variety of life issues.

Maggie Walsh, Project Rachel, revealed the need for healing from an abortion experience and encouraged clergy to attend a Project Rachel training to have a better understanding of how to counsel post-abortive women, men, and families.

More than 30 priests, deacons, and seminarians attended the event, which included an opening prayer by Bishop David J. Walkowiak., and an update from Grand Rapids Right to Life on how the organization can support the prolife efforts of clergy in local parishes.
