Behmer Wins Top Student Award

DJ Zarnosky Life Leadership Award Winner

Lainey Behmer

For her enthusiastic involvement over the past four years with Grand Rapids Right to Life, Lainey Behmer, a senior at Catholic Central High School, was awarded the 2024 DJ Zarnosky Life Leadership Award.

Behmer received a $1,000 scholarship for exhibiting outstanding leadership in the prolife movement.

During her high school years, Behmer attended the March for Life in Washington, DC, and the Michigan March for Life in Lansing. In 2022, she was actively involved educating people about the dangers of Proposal 3. She distributed flyers at her school’s football games, posted information on her school’s Instagram page, and participated in the Fight Life Heaven Novena.

When reflecting on her prolife commitment, Behmer wrote, “My prolife beliefs used to be something that I was aware of, but didn’t necessarily have the passion to go out of my way to fight for.” After attending the March for Life she admitted, “I’ve become so passionate about my defense for the rights of all people and their inherent God-given dignity that I now have a desire to go into a career with this end goal in mind.”

Behmer plans to study Marketing and pursue a minor in General Business at Hillsdale College.

This award is named to honor the memory of Dennis Joseph Zarnosky, who died in a tragic car accident in 2000.  DJ was only 16 when he died; however, he was always a passionate supporter of life and was determined to make a difference in the world.

Steve and Sandy Zarnosky, DJ’s parents, were blessed by his life and they continue to be enriched and encouraged by memories of his spirit and by the young award recipients who are carrying on his legacy of commitment to the prolife movement.
