Arroyo Offers Uplifting Message

Focus on Life Benefit DinnerAward-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author Raymond Arroyo was the entertaining and inspiring keynote speaker for the 37th annual Focus on Life Benefit Dinner on Monday, October 14.

Amid a contentious election season, Arroyo inspired the crowd of 810 people to remain steadfast in their defense of the unborn. He praised the work of humble prolife people, who, he asserted, accomplish more than famous influencers and media personnel in their efforts to help moms, encourage dads, and save babies.

His presentation was filled with humorous anecdotes, delightful impersonations, and a realistic, uplifting assessment of the current state of the prolife movement.

A special honor was given to Barbara Listing for her 43 years of service as president of Right to Life of Michigan. Chairman of the Board Patricia Korte gave a speech highlighting Listing’s accomplishments and presented her with a commemorative gift from Grand Rapids Right to Life.

Lisa Posthumus Lyons, Kent County Clerk, was the engaging emcee for the evening. She reminded the guests of the God-given right to life granted to every person.

Laura Alexandria, president of Grand Rapids Right to Life, gave a talk about the accomplishments of the organization during 2024, which included student scholarships, digital ads to help women facing an unplanned pregnancy, educational publications, outreach events including a premiere film screening, and work with local faith communities.

Many dignitaries, prolife legislators, and local judges were in attendance.

The evening opened with a prayer from Paul Long, president of the Michigan Catholic Conference, and ended with prayer from Josh Blunt, pastor of Sunshine Community Church.
