Three students received a $250 scholarship to attend the 2026 LEAD Summer Program; Kateri Boutell, a freshman at Sacred Heart Academy; Elijah Ellison, a homeschooled freshman; and Gianna Boutell, a senior at Sacred Heart Academy.
LEAD is a week-long camp training high school students how to apply Biblical and moral principles in their own life and the world around them.
Scholarship candidates were required to submit an application that listed involvement with Grand Rapids Right to Life and included their thoughts on important leadership skills to be addressed during the camp.
When asked to explain why the LEAD Summer Program was of interest, Gianna wrote, “The pro-life movement always needs more leaders to defend the unborn babies.” Kateri explained, “It will be good to meet new people who also have a passion to talk about the pro-life movement.”
Reflecting on the core elements to be taught during camp, Elijah discussed the importance of learning communication skills, which are “essential to teamwork and can assist in thinking critically about [a] topic.”
All three students will attend summer camp during July at Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
