“Human life is sacred — all men must recognize that fact. From its very inception it reveals the creating hand of God.” (Pope St. John XXIII)
I am pro-life because every soul that is created by God has a story, and it is so important that each person gets to live “their” story that God has made unique and special … just for them!
I would like to share with you “my” story because my birth mother chose life and that decision has made a positive impact on many people’s lives beyond my own. Though my birth mother may have had no idea what kind of effect my life would have on the world, God certainly knew even before He created me!
My birth mother became pregnant at the very young age of just 13 and had me at 14 years old. At that time, she wasn’t in the best state of mind as she was in juvenile detention so she could learn to stay out of trouble. At such a young age, I imagine it was hard for her to be pregnant because of all of the obstacles she was facing, but somehow through all the challenges, she chose to give me life … to let me live “my” story that God made special for me!
I am so thankful that my birth mother’s choice led to my adoption so that I could be placed in a family with four other siblings, who were also adopted and had similar stories and could have easily been aborted as well.
Additionally, I have an amazing adoptive dad who is a great example of how to be a man. He is a former Marine, a police officer, and a fire fighter, and someday I hope to be as well. He deals with a lot of boys and girls from fatherless homes who are getting into trouble, like my birth mother did. Without a father around, these young people are often pressured to make bad choices such as using drugs, alcohol, crime, and abortion to respond to what they are facing.
God has also blessed me with an adoptive mom who works at HELP Pregnancy Aid. I work alongside her as a volunteer to provide for families who have chosen life and are working through challenges and need support to overcome them. It is an honor to serve those in need, and I love volunteering there!
I can see that God has created “my” story to be great and has a plan for me to serve and help young people live “their” stories, too! I feel that God is calling me to lead in the pro-life movement and share with others that they have value, worth, and a story made by the hand of God, too!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
