Congratulations to the Grand Prize winners of Bike & Hike Festival for Life! Grand Prizes were won by the two participants who gathered the most amount of pledges. Molly Puglessi won first place and a trip to the March for Life in Washington, DC, in 2014.
Families and people of all ages came to The DeltaPlex Arena on Saturday, May 4, and enjoyed a beautiful day of biking, walking, lunch, face painting, and live music as part of the Bike & Hike Festival for Life. More than 40 volunteers helped to make this a fun day for all.
Katie DeVries was honored with the D.J. Zarnosky Life Leadership Award from Grand Rapids Right to Life for exemplifying outstanding leadership in the prolife movement. Katie has been committed to using her gifts to educate herself and others on the reality of abortion.
LifeFest 2013 was attended by 100 prolife youth in the Grand Rapids area who came out on a rainy, windy night to hear Bryan Kemper, Stand True Ministries, talk about the prolife movement and about the need to get involved.
Jennifer Evans won the Prolife Oratory Contest, sponsored by Grand Rapids Right to Life, and a $125 scholarship. In the fall, Jennifer will attend Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids to study Elementary Education. She hopes to continue at Kendall College to study art in the future.
Roughly 100 people gathered on Thursday, March 14, to hear Dr. Monica Miller, author of the book Abandoned, speak at Aquinas College. Miller’s book recounts her experiences on the front lines of the abortion wars.
Katie DeVries won the Prolife Youth Award, and a $50 scholarship, based on an essay and her volunteer work with Grand Rapids Right to Life. In the fall, Katie will attend Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She will major in Music Education with a focus on vocal music.
Grand Rapids Right to Life sponsored five billboards during the month of January that commemorated the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion-on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy. The billboards proclaimed: 40 Years Too Long. 55 Million Too Many.
From September – October, 2012, Grand Rapids Right to Life sponsored four ads on city buses that offered help to women facing a crisis pregnancy. The ads promoted the 24-hour hotline, 800-57WOMAN, that offers assistance to women in Michigan who need help with a crisis pregnancy, post-abortion counseling, adoption referrals, and material goods.
