Memorial Service for the Unborn

January 14, 2018 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
St. Jude Catholic Church
1120 4 Mile Rd NE
Grand Rapids, MI 49525

January 22, 2018, marks the 45th anniversary of legalized abortion-on-demand in the United States. To honor and mourn the 58,000,000 lives lost to abortion since 1973, Grand Rapids Right to Life is sponsoring the annual Memorial Service for the Unborn.

The keynote speaker is Mary Verwys, veteran sidewalk counselor and founder of Garden of Hope, a ministry that offers encouragement and support to women who are considering an abortion or who have already had an abortion.

Special music will be provided by combined choirs from West Catholic High School and Our Lady of Consolation Middle School under the direction of Mary Harkema.

The memorial service is a time of prayer and remembrance.

Diapers and baby wipes will be collected for donation to local crisis pregnancy centers.

Sidewalk counselors in Grand Rapids estimate that 15 – 20 women enter the local abortion clinic on days when abortions are performed. The Michigan Department of Community Health reported in 2016 that 1,211 women from Kent County had abortions. Almost 63% did not have any previous abortion, more than 24% had one previous abortion, and more than 13% had two or more previous abortions.

Regarding the age of Kent County residents who procured an abortion in 2016, almost 10% were under the age of 20, more than 63% were aged 20 – 29, almost 25% were aged 30 – 39, and almost 2% were 40 years or older.

All are welcome to attend the annual meeting for the Grand Rapids Right to Life Board of Directors at 1:30 PM prior to the memorial service.

A freewill offering will be taken.
