Memorial Service for the Unborn

January 13, 2019 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church
2750 Burton Street SE
Grand Rapids
MI 49546

January 22, 2019, marks the 46th anniversary of legalized abortion-on-demand in the United States. To honor and mourn the 60,000,000 lives lost to abortion since 1973, Grand Rapids Right to Life is sponsoring the annual Memorial Service for the Unborn.

The keynote speakers, Leisa Snow and Mary Zandstra, are sidewalk counselors who reach out with hope to women and men as they enter Heritage Clinic for Women, the only free-standing abortion facility in Grand Rapids. Snow and Zandstra will share their stories of despair and encouragement, heartache and joy.

Special music will be provided by musicians from St. Paul the Apostle and Our Lady of Consolation parishes.

Donations of diapers and baby wipes will be accepted and distributed to local pregnancy centers.

A freewill offering will be taken to help further the prolife outreach efforts of Grand Rapids Right to Life.

Sidewalk counselors in Grand Rapids estimate that 15 – 20 women enter the local abortion clinic on days when abortions are performed. The Michigan Department of Community Health reported in 2017 that 1,241 women from Kent County had abortions. Almost 63% did not have any previous abortion, more than 22% had one previous abortion, and almost 15% had two or more previous abortions.

Regarding the age of Kent County residents who procured an abortion in 2017, almost 11% were under the age of 20, more than 62% were aged 20 – 29, almost 25% were aged 30 – 39, and more than 2% were 40 years or older.

The memorial service is a time of prayer and remembrance.

All are welcome to attend the annual meeting for the Grand Rapids Right to Life Board of Directors at 2:30 PM prior to the memorial service.
