The Diocese of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Right to Life hosted a Clergy Luncheon for Life at Cathedral Square on Tuesday, March 24.

Fr. Steve Mattson, pastor of Church of the Resurrection in Lansing, spoke about how he closed WomanCare Clinic, the last free-standing abortion clinic in Lansing, by taking over their property lease.

Near the end of 2014, Bishop Earl Boyea authorized Fr. Mattson’s church to lease the 4,100-square-foot office space that had been WomanCare Clinic.  Fr. Steve, who came up with the plan to take over the space, stated, “We desire for our parish, including our presence at this new site, to be a place of hope and healing for all who have been wounded by the effects of sin in our world.”

Fr. Mattson credited prayer and God for closing the clinic.

More than 30 priests attended the event, which included an opening prayer by Bishop David J. Walkowiak, and an update from Grand Rapids Right to Life on how the organization can support the prolife efforts of clergy in local parishes.
