Grand Rapids Right to Life sponsored a free screening of the award-winning documentary film The Drop Box at Grace Bible College on November 12. More than 125 people attended this event.
Every year, hundreds of babies are abandoned on the streets of Seoul, South Korea, but one brave pastor has made it his mission to save them. Pastor Lee Jong-rak built a box that has received over 600 unwanted babies who would have been otherwise abandoned and left to die. The Drop Box is a film about his amazing efforts to provide refuge to children who are orphaned and frequently disabled.
The Drop Box movie is also a story of hope and a reminder that every human life is sacred and worthy of love.
Following the screening, attendees had an opportunity to ask questions of representatives from Bethany Christian Services. Kristi Gleason, senior director of global programs, and Alison Adema, international services coordinator, answered questions about adoption in Asia and how people can get involved and help.
To combat the problem of abandoned babies, Michigan has a Safe Delivery law. Babies up to three days old may be left with a staff member at any hospital, fire station, police station, or with any emergency service provider that is on duty in Michigan. As long as the baby has not been abused, the person may do so anonymously and without fear of arrest or prosecution.
