The 2016 Grand Rapids Right to Life Prolife Youth Award winner is Bridget Duba, a senior at West Catholic High School. Duba won a $100 scholarship and has been nominated for Right to Life of Michigan’s $500 award.

Applicants for the award were required to write a short essay on “How to Promote a Prolife Message” and to list their prolife involvement during their high school career.

Duba’s essay focused on the need to engage others with the prolife message. “Many people, especially students, would rather shelter their beliefs than promote the prolife message for fear of being ostracized or mocked. As students, pressure to fit in causes many to silence their opinions,” she wrote.  “I believe that the most effective way to combat the issues plaguing our cause, while at the same time promoting it, is through awareness campaigns.”

The judges were greatly impressed by Duba’s dedication to the prolife cause, as well as her plans for the future. She will attend the University of Kentucky and hopes to be an active member of the Students for Life club there.
