Haskell Wins Prolife Youth Award

Mariah Haskell

The 2017 Grand Rapids Right to Life Prolife Youth Award winner is Mariah Haskell, a senior at West Catholic High School. Haskell won a $100 scholarship and has been nominated for Right to Life of Michigan’s $500 award.

Applicants for the award were required to write a short essay on “How to Promote a Prolife Message” and to list their prolife involvement during their high school career.

In her essay, Haskell wrote about the profound impact abortion has had on the world, pointing out the millions of families who have missing members. She encouraged her fellow students to engage personally in the battle for life.

“The personal encounter we can make with each person is powerful, and our loving support of life can make a big difference when someone is in despair,” Haskell stated. “People need to know that being prolife is normal and loving. Share the message!”

Haskell has been active in prolife work throughout her high school career, including attending the March for Life, volunteering at the Focus on Life Benefit Dinner, and getting involved with HELP Pregnancy Crisis Aid.

Starting next fall, she will attend Ave Maria University in Florida.
