Without ever mentioning the word “abortion,” former U.S. Representative from South Carolina, Trey Gowdy, gave a compelling, heartfelt prolife talk at the 32nd annual Focus on Life Benefit Dinner on Monday, October 7.
The crowd of almost 1,500 people gave Gowdy a standing ovation as he took the stage in the DeVos Place ballrooms. During his keynote address, he told stories that demonstrated how he honored the dignity of every person through his work as a federal prosecutor, as a congressman, and as a husband and father.
President of Grand Rapids Right to Life, Susan Misner Palazzolo, spoke about all of the work accomplished by the organization in the past year.
Patricia Korte, Chairman of the Board, presented a memorial tribute to Dr. Larry Burns, former board member and local prolife hero, who passed away earlier this year. His wife, Marion, was brought on-stage to receive a gift in honor of his dedication to Grand Rapids Right to Life and to the unborn.
John James, Ranger-qualified aviation officer who served with distinction in Operation Iraqi Freedom, was the emcee for the evening.
A video of Dr. Anthony Levatino, former abortionist, explaining the dismemberment abortion procedure was shown in an effort to encourage and motivate all present to circulate petitions and get signatures for the citizen-initiated effort to end dismemberment abortions in Michigan.
Many dignitaries, prolife legislators, and local judges were in attendance for this gala evening. Bishop David Walkowiak, Diocese of Grand Rapids, opened the event with prayer, and Pastor Dawn Damon, Tribes Church, said the closing prayer.
