Huckabee Shares Inspirational Stories

Through family stories and humorous anecdotes, Gov. Mike Huckabee explained why he was personally and passionately prolife at the 34th annual Focus on Life Benefit Dinner on Monday, October 11.

His heartfelt talk, given to a crowd of 1,290 people, compelled the audience to do something for the cause of life. Huckabee ended his oration by stating that one person truly can make a difference.

Justin Barclay, radio host of West Michigan Live, was the emcee for the event. He shared an emotional story about the premature birth of his daughter, who is now thriving and perfectly healthy.

Laura Alexandria, president of Grand Rapids Right to Life, gave a talk about the accomplishments of the organization during 2021, which included the placement of billboards and digital ads, youth activities and scholarships, and community education through events and publications.

Emily Ranschaert brought down the house with her award-winning prolife speech. After winning the Grand Rapids Right to Life High School Oratory Contest, Ranschaert competed against 22 other students and won the statewide contest. Her moving presentation compared the splendor of each individual star to the importance and beauty of each individual person.

Many dignitaries, prolife legislators, and local judges were in attendance for this gala.

The evening opened with a prayer from Bishop David Walkowiak and ended with prayer from Thomas Lawrence, prolife ambassador for Grand Rapids Right to Life.
