Mother Teresa famously said, “Let us remember that every child at its very conception is created for greater things…to love and to be loved.”
I am prolife because every life is valuable. When a woman first conceives a child, God has already made that new life to know, love, and serve Him. We don’t know who this child could be or what their potential is; only God knows. God always has a plan and design for that life, that only that child was created for. Each person has different gifts and the only way to see these gifts is when that life is allowed to reveal itself to the world.
A human life is like a flower. The flower’s seed contains a potential for life and when it’s placed into the ground it’s hardly recognizable as to what it will become. However, when you nourish it, it grows into what it is created to be … a beautiful life that gives glory to God! A flower has stages just like a baby has, and it’s not until it goes through all the stages from seed/conception to bloom/birth and grows, that you’ll see its full potential. But even as the smallest of seeds/new life, God’s design is imprinted into it, and it’s perfectly made to serve His purpose.
Women are much more likely to keep their baby if they can see the beautifully hidden child growing inside of them. That’s why pregnancy centers are vital. When mothers see their baby in an ultrasound, its parts formed and moving around, the thought of abortion in many cases fades away. They often recognize the precious life hidden inside for the first time. As a volunteer at HELP Pregnancy Aid, I feel inspired as I watch the love each mother experiences as they are helped by the volunteers and staff. To see the hope that these women have after they receive assistance to find solutions to their challenges that move them from fear to joy makes me excited to be prolife!
Mother Theresa said, “Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want.” Sadly, one of the greatest things destroying our country today is abortion. Why kill an innocent child who has done no harm? Fear is often what drives this, and if we could only reach the mothers with life-affirming choices and help them see the valuable life inside of them, they would have hope.
People could have said that my life wasn’t valuable. My birth parents were in a less-than-ideal situation, and my life could have easily been destroyed. I’m thankful for my life, and it’s clear that God has a plan for me! Since I’m Guatemalan, I have a deep desire to assist Hispanic families by helping alleviate their burdens by showing them that someone cares for them. I want to be someone who changes the world by helping people to see the beautiful gift of each life.
